PLACE: 126 Barrows Hall TITLE: Spatial Data Science and the 21st Century Mapping Toolkit ABSTRACT:  The past decade has been one of astonishing innovation in the world of spatial data, analysis and visualization. I’m going to talk about all the amazing and fun technology that you can work with. My group focuses on mapping for a California, and we use blends of very modern tools with historical and contemporary data to help answer applied ecological questions. Basically this is a look at all my favorite things in the mapping arena, some of my most recent work, and where you can get more information. BIOGRAPHY: I am Professor and Cooperative Extension Specialist in the Environmental Science, Policy and Management department at UC Berkeley. I study the drivers, patterns and consequences of environmental change across California’s spatially complex, socially diverse and dynamic landscapes using integrated geospatial tools. My lab use GIS, remote sensing, historical data archives, web infrastructure, and participatory technologies to study changing landscapes. I am Faculty Director of the GIF, and Director of the ANR Statewide Program in Informatics and Geographic Information Systems (IGIS).
