Stephen is a PhD Candidate at UC Berkeley’s Energy & Resources Group and a Researcher at the Energy Institute at Haas. His work lies at the intersection of economics, public policy and data science. His research interests are centered on the energy sector and the environment, with a particular focus on electricity markets. His primary job market paper is an empirical study of the economic costs of NIMBYism in the context of renewable energy.
Stephen holds an MS in Energy & Resources from UC Berkeley and is working towards a Graduate Certificate in Applied Data Science from the Information School. He is a member of the Society, Economics and Environment Lab and a current research grant recipient from The Fisher Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics. Before coming to Berkeley Stephen earned his BSc in Economics and Economic History from the London School of Economics, after which he spent three years working as an economist at Ofgem, the UK’s energy regulator.
